First of all, this picture is totally out of context. It’s a picture from the Lebanon war of 2006. The famous ”Green Helmet Guy” who was prominent in Hizballah propaganda, is plainly visible in the background. In other words, a different country and a different war.
I wonder if Mssrs. Baird and Ellison bothered to cross the border and see what damage eight years of incessant rocket attacks did to Israel.
It’s all about proportion– why did Hamas continue to fire into Israel... over 8000 rockets and mortar shells since the disengagement in 2005, and thousands before that? Did they expect that Israel would never respond?
The equation is simple: if Hamas and their ”friends” stop firing on Israel, then Israel has no interest in firing on Gaza. The direct cause of Palestinian suffering is other Palestinians, Hamas and Fatah, who may have been ”democratically elected”, but have been anything BUT democratic since the elections.
